Post Pregnancy Fitness

It's been awhile since I last posted and since then I've delivered my daughter and began adjusting to life as a mommy and new role of Chief Household Operating Officer (self-designated title) since leaving my job. Holy life changes! All good stuff though!

However, I've struggled with getting motivated to workout regularly in between feedings, changings, play time, nap time, cleaning and errands. Whew! I need a nap after that sentence. After enough weeks of still wearing maternity pants and not fitting in many of my clothes though, I got annoyed enough to do something about it. I found lots of motivational ideas on Pinterest and decided to do P90X again; a 90-day, intense fitness program that I did about 4 years ago and had great success with. I have more to lose and work on this time around, but I'm finally ready to get down to business!

Below are a few of my favorite motivators I found on Pinterest and changes I've made:
  • Drinking a gallon of water a day: great for the body and skin
  • I've read it takes 21 days to form a habit. I started a visual countdown on my fridge to cross off every day after my workout
  • A one-hour workout is only 4% of my day.... there's no excuse to not find the time to squeeze that in for myself
  • Swapped breakfast for a meal replacement/protein shake
  • No carbs or very little for dinner and after
  • Healthy snacking on cucumbers, hummus, salads, fruit
  • Calorie & exercise tracking with MyFitnessPal app
I'm now on Day 8 already and feeling so much better about myself. That's the best part. Isn't that what it's all about? :)

What works for you??

Sincerely, Brit

Baby Shower #2 Weekend

Last weekend was Baby Shower #2 with my family & friends! It was a great weekend and a beautiful celebration for Baby M!

The weekend started with my friend Danielle coming in on Friday with her 2-month baby girl, Devra Nicole. What a precious and good little girl! She's just sweet as can be and it was so fun to just watch her..and get some practice of course! It was also entertaining to see how our dog Jax reacted to her. He was actually very protective, any time she would sneeze or cry or basically make a noise, he'd be at her side checking on her. It was pretty adorable.

Saturday was the shower and the location was a surprise - which I didn't know ahead of time. I thought we were having it at my sister's house right down the street, but when hubby told me we needed to leave a little early to run an errand, I knew something was up. He's not very good at being sneaky :)
My family ended up renting out a party room at the Greene Turtle, a local restaurant here, and had it all decorated and ready for the shower. It was so cute and a fun surprise! After socializing a bit and eating, we played several games and even a few games for the guys (bobbing for nipples - lol it was a little gross but hilarious).

Then we opened gifts. We got so many sweet things for Baby M - I spent a majority of the next day going through everything with hubby and my mom to organize and wash and just play lol.

It was such a nice day and I'm so grateful for everyone that came. Baby M is just so blessed to have so many people that love her already. Just a few more weeks!!

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #221: Take Me Out to the Ballgame

This week's challenge over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" to create a sports related project using the Cricut.

I made this card for my brother-in-law's birthday because he is an avid Oriole's fan and his bday falls right in the heart of the season (doesn't it feel like baseball season lasts all year anyway though?).

I used the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More 2 cartridge for the Happy Birthday cut and staggered three layers of black, white & orange. I used orange/yellow glitter for the candle flame.

For the bird, I used the Create a Critter 2 cartridge and added a googly eye for fun. The baseball stamps are Stampin' Up. My BIL loved this card and it was pretty simple to make.

Next year I may have to bite the bullet and make him a Ravens themed football card even though I'm a huge Steelers fan. Ugh. But oh well - that's the fun of tailoring cards for people. It's what they like that makes the theme fun! :)

Baby's First Year Scrapbook: Bath Time

A majority of my crafting time in the past has been spent making various greeting cards and invitations. However, I'm now venturing into the wonderful world of scrapbooking!

My goal is to have a Baby's First Year scrapbook ready to go for Baby M before her anticipated arrival which is a little over a month away. I started by making a list of the types of pages/events I'd want to document during her first year. My list got a little out of control at first because honestly, what don't you want to snap a picture of or document in the first year, right?! After some narrowing down, I ended up with the following list:

Birthday/First Pics, Coming Home, Sleeping, Random, Bath Time, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Baptism, Valentines, Easter, Summer, Crawling, Walking, First Birthday

I finally took the leap to make the first pages and I decided to start with Bath Time. I used my Cricut and the Life's a Beach cartridge for all of the cuts (except the water and picture squares). I chose mostly soft/pastel type colors with an off-white background, a shimmery baby blue for the water and picture backgrounds, shimmery pastel yellow for the AHOY & SPLASH headlines, light pink for the whales, fish and AHOY & SPLASH shadows, black for the fish & whale backgrounds, light green speckled cardstock for the seaweed, white for the picture slots, navy blue for the bubbles, and pink & white polka dot and yellow ribbon.

Whew! After all that, here's the finished product:

I'm really happy with how these turned out and excited to take on more of the page designs I have planned.

This week is good timing too because the theme of the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #220 is Wet and Wild so I'm entering this there as well for fun! :)

Thank you for visiting! And if you have any other good ideas for pages to add to Baby M's scrapbook that I didn't list above (not that I need any more really, but some alternative/add-on options can't hurt!) feel free to comment and let me know!

Take care and make it a great day!

Sincerely, Brit

July 4th Weekend & Baby Shower #1

So this post is a little late but I wanted to document the weekend nevertheless. The hubby and I decided to brave the roads and make the 4-5 hour trip to Pittsburgh to visit his family for July 4th weekend this summer. We got to his parents house late Thursday night and did excited hugs and hellos with his parents then went to bed. We were all pretty tired.

Friday we went to my sister-in-law's house for a baby shower she threw for me with all the ladies on his side of the family and then a big family 4th of July party afterwards. I was so excited and surprised by how much she did for the shower - it was beautiful! The decorations were adorable, had lots of yummy food & snacks and pink punch, and we played a crazy fun game of Baby Pictionary. I wish I'd taken pictures of some of our drawings because they were hilarious.

We got lots of great gifts for Baby M but what I especially loved was that everyone gave her a new book and wrote a note to her on the inside cover. I read these on the drive home on Sunday and cried throughout a majority of them. Hormones. But they were all just so personalized and loving - she's so blessed to have such a big and caring family to come into!

Some of Baby M's new books

My SIL also had everyone write out advice cards and left them anonymous so my mother-in-law and I had some fun trying to figure out who's was who's the next day and after seeing the fam again, narrowed them all down! Our guesses were pretty close actually!

My handsome husband - this makes me smile

Then the big family 4th of July party started immediately after - complete with grilling out, tons of more food & snacks, cornhole, swimming (the kids only - water was a little chilly!), beersby, and fireworks! It was such a great day, perfect weather, and so fun to catch up with everyone. We only get to see them a couple times a year so we really cherish the times we have together. I'm really truly blessed to have such a great family of in-laws. We have so much fun whenever we get together. Would be nice to be closer but we can't do the Pittsburgh cold. We're barely surviving the MD cold of this past winter lol.

Saturday we just spent some down time with his parents and cousins and our beautiful niece who I had fun taking lots of pretty pictures of. She's such a happy baby! And Saturday night we went over my BIL's in-laws house for another cookout and more cornhole and beersby! Then we left Sunday morning after breakfast to get a jump on the anticipated traffic. I got a little emotional when we left but it was such a great weekend! A very memorable, and enjoyable fourth!
